Hello January. My how you have flown by.... I have had every intention of blogging at least 10 times this month... Yet, here we are on Friday the 13th and I am making my FIRST post of 2012. I *wish* that I had an excuse to give (even a lame one). Must get better about this blog stuff. Period. I still have tons of Hawaii images to upload and post. Maybe tomorrow :)

Enough talk about my inadequacies... let's show you some images from one of my late 2011 sessions. LOVE LOVE LOVE this family.

In all the crazy holiday hub-bub.... I'm taking a moment to update my poor old neglected blog. I still have TONS of Hawaii vacation photos to share.... and I will... someday. :)

Right now, I'm finishing up my shooting engagements for the year. It feels really good! This year was FANTASTIC! Busiest one yet. I loved every single one of my clients and hope they return next year! I have some exciting things planned for 2012 and will share them with you soon.

Oh my goodness... I love this little girl so much it hurts. She's the daughter of one of my old school besties and one of my son's favorite playmates. favorite things about Hawaii part 2

In Florida, we have snowcones. In Louisiana, they have snowballs. In Hawaii, they have shave ice. These three items are NOT the same.
We had heard that the BEST shave ice on Oahu could be found at the North Shore.... so off we went to find out. TRUE STORY. The Volcom Store shave ice stand has the *old school* crank ice shaver which provides superior shave ice.

We're home from Hawaii! Words cannot describe how much we LOVED it there. We spent 2 weeks exploring the island of Oahu and doing our best to immerse ourselves into the culture. The North Shore is home to Laniakea Beach (aka Turtle Beach). This little gem is famous for epic surf and daily visits from green sea turtles. We loved this experience so much, we visited two times. Little man was in heaven (our fam *really* digs sea turtles). He ran around taking photos at various angles and even captured a shot of one turtle yawning! Photo momma wasn't ready and missed it. He was SO excited, he shouted... "I got it" and received praise from other onlookers. Photo momma was proud :) I will post his image later... as it surely deserves it's own post!

Will post more about our amazing vacation soon! STILL trying to get back into the EST groove.

My oh my.... 2011 has flown by. I can't beleive we are just days away from Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to spending quality time with my family for the holidays.

Life is crazy. Sometimes a little TOO crazy. It's hard to stop and appreciate the sweet things around us. As I was rushing around trying to get out the door, I stopped to capture this sweet moment. My son writing his own little story. He's 5. He can't read yet.... and he's just learning how to write all of his letters correctly. So to find him doing this "all on his own".... melted my heart in SO many ways.

We have been waiting for this day for a LONG time. This is the day we can finally call this 5 year old piggy bank FULL. We have been very close to this day for a while.... yet could still squeeze in coins.  Not ready.

So today we purged this bank. It was HEAVY. In fact, my son hasn't been able to pick it up solo for months.  This sucker contained 12 dollar bills, 2 rubber bands, 1 silly band, 2 candy wrappers and countless coins.

What should we wear for our portrait session???

I get this question from 90% of my clients before their photo sessions.  Especially family sessions.

The answer is simple, sort of.

1. Wear clothing that represents YOU, YOUR FAMILY, AND YOUR STYLE.

2. I say. "If I do MY job right, no one will notice what you are wearing in the image." I stand by this statement.

3.  Should we match? Matching is fine.... but coordinating is GLORIOUS!

4. Avoid big characters or logos which draw the eye away from your darling kiddos face.

5.  Pick one piece of clothing (usually for Mom) and coordinate around it.

6.  People feel more relaxed in casual attire.... and their photos reflect this. (HINT HINT)

The end of summer is drawing near. We spent most of our summer on the coast and loved every minute of it. These images are of my sister's children... LOVE THEM. Whenever driving, my husband's eyes are on not on the road, but on 957 *other* things. It totally makes me nervous and crazy. Finally... all of his "rubbernecking" paid off! He spotted this manatee and newborn calf in a small creek! SCORE!! Of course, he doubled back to nab these cute pics! In fact, he called me to boast that he had just finished up his first newborn session! HA! These images are not mine.... but hubby doesn't have a snazzy little watermark :). Fast and Furious

Still enjoying summer here in the Littrell Family. This week was spent with my sister and her 2 children. Hadn't seen them in 2 years and WOW it is AMAZING how fast my niece and nephew are growing up. My nephew couldn't seem to "grasp" the Aunt Shannon concept and called me Grandma the whole trip. I found it to be funny.... so it stuck. We took a ton of photos at the beach (will post them later)........ but for now, enjoy the images of our trip to the local icon known as Lil 500 . It was my little man's first time driving SOLO and he LOVED every minute of it!!!

Cocoa Beach Surf Rats

Summer FUN continues for the Littrell Fam. We spent a week at Cocoa Beach with my BFF and her kiddos. We "intended" to take 957 photos...... but SOMEHOW between the laughs, the storms, and the cocktails..... I only have a handful of images to [prove] we were there. These boogie boarding shots were taken about 7 minutes before sunset.... whoops! Didn't I mention cocktails? Even with poor lighting... you can tell these kids were having FUN!

Sooooooo, I have always wanted to play with a fish eye lens. They are SUPER expensive, tricky to use, and not "really" practical. All this adversity..... yet, I wanted one anyway.

A few months ago, my friend Erin told me about a local place to rent photography equipment. Rent equipment??? I had never even thought about it. Finally, I was gonna get a little play time with the fish eye without blowing my budget. Brilliant!

Check out The Lens Depot. They were super friendly, affordable and efficient. They ship nationwide AND allow locals to pick up there items to save on shipping. SLP gives them a big thumbs up!

Back to the fish eye..... can you say learning curve??? Below are a few images of my sweet boy that actually came out "decent". I will continue to play with it...... and attempt to master it.... and feel GREAT that I didn't splurge to buy it!

I spent the last week of 2010 in New Smyrna Beach with my 2 favorite boys. It was a great time to relax after the holiday hysteria and focus on goals for 2011. We walked, shopped, rode scooters, ate rubbish and played football on the beach. It was a fantastic week. Below are images from our first night of beach football..... Clearly, I had many favorites.

So many of my photographer friends incorporate photos of their regular everyday lives into blog posts. I think about doing it.... but then usually decide NOT to break out my camera... hence, no blogpost.

TODAY was different. My son was acting weird all morning and demanding privacy. He told me NOT to go into his room while he was at school. He also told me that he would know if I violated these wishes. I nodded in agreement and headed for the car.

THIS is what I found when I came home. A 4 year old's version of a booby trap. I am still chuckling....

Round 2 of my session with my worst client EVER "aka" -my own flesh and blood. It went a tad bit better than the first attempt.... but still left me [longing] for that perfecct shot! We had hiding, tears, and pouts this round. I was wishing for joyful smiles and laughter.... Maybe next time.

Summer vacation is coming to an end..... time to get back to work. I have been on somewhat of a hiatus lately. Hence, no blog action for almost a month. [yikes] Now I am ready to rock and roll!

I am also making a [real] commitment to take more photos of MY family.... I might even jump in a few too. I woke up today with the urge to get some great shots of my little man. HE wasn't really into it..... I got two decent images and I now realize that he REALLY needs a haircut. Maybe I will try again this evening..... after a haircut.

I am so excited. I just ordered the big man another cape for the "Superhero Arsenal". We LOVE playing dress up around here.... so another cape was a no brainer. I'm back home from my Louisiana vacation. I had a wonderful time visiting my BFF and meeting her new cajun friends. We stopped by her neighbor's house to meet her newest addition and I HAD to snap a few pics. Our friends recently adopted a dog.... not just ANY dog..... the COOLEST dog EVER! He's a Redbone Coonhound for those who are into the details. All I see is BIG RED HOUND DOG! From the day that I met him, I have been DYING to snap some photos of him. You might remember the boy in the photos from here or here.... He's a bit of a "regular" on the blog. One thing I know is true... This boy LOVES this dog!

More images from my last session..... it was so fun an refreshing to play with little girls. I live in DUDE land where pink stuff is outlawed. These girls were so sweet and absolutely GORGEOUS!

Baby E was 5 weeks old, which is a little older than my typical newborn sessions..... She wasn't really into sleeping, curling up, or wearing a tu-tu for me (YES, we tried). Despite all her efforts, she ended up giving me some pretty cute material.
